As you are aware COVID-19 poses one of the greatest challenges that society has faced in recent times, and we have all had to make changes to our daily lives to ensure that we work together to protect the most vulnerable members of society.

At the Rowhedge and University of Essex Medical Practice we are working tirelessly, funnelling all resources into ensuring that patients continue to receive safe clinical services on a reduced workforce, whilst also trying to protect our staff as much as possible.

We are receiving a very high volume of calls from patients for two specific reasons:

1. Patients are calling the surgery as they are unable to get through to the pharmacy as the pharmacy phone-lines are busy.

2. Patients are calling requesting a letter from the doctor stating that they are vulnerable to support an application to the council for shopping privileges.

These calls are placing our telephone lines under huge strain and will potentially result in patients with a genuine medical concern not being able to get through to speak with anyone.

Please only contact the surgery if you have a genuine medical concern. We are not in a position to assist with either of the two aforementioned issues. During this period of emergency measures many routine services will be subject to short notice change and many administrative tasks will be streamlined to ensure that we focus more of our time and resources on the delivery of care to those that need it the most. This is so that we can keep working in an effective manner and can continue to provide the best level of care possible.

Thank you for your co-operation.
